I am contacting you from Youth Ki Awwaz. We're looking for content writers who can write about public policy and other social issues. Would you be up for a short interview?

Candidate: Yes

Cool. First, tell me something about yourself.

Candidate: I am Ankit. I graduated with engineering degree in 2015. I have done a diploma in liberal arts and worked in education sector.

What made you apply for this post?

Candidate: I am interested to work on social issues.

Tell me more about the social issues you're interested in.

Candidate: I want to work on education, livelihood projects for underpriviliged sections of society, helping for women rehabilitation projects.

Awesome. You said that you're interested in liberal arts. Tell me something about this field that you feel is important.

Candidate: It was an important venture for me as it opened to multiple perspectives for understanding the society around me. I had courses on law, literature, policy, economics etc, which not only helped me understand the depth of current issues, but inspired me to be more inquisitive and introspective in any work I do, and evaluate its larger impact.

I see. Do you think liberal arts was able to satisfy this curiosity?

Candidate: Yes, the diversity of courses, expertise of professors, and connect with the industry through an experiential learning module helped with it.

That's good to hear. It's interesting that you're interested in education. Tell me more about education: What do you feel needs to be changed?

Candidate: I don't think to work in education sector, I will start with the question of "what needs to be changed?". I will first understand the system, area and people I am working with. I would focus on how I can enhance the learning and intervene in the best possible way.

I see. Do you think you can solve problems by just understanding them? Is gaining insights enough?

Candidate: I mentioned my focus will be on enhancing. Thus, my development plan would be based on that mindset.

Oh, okay. Let's talk about the job. What are your strengths?

Candidate: I think one of my greatest strengths is as a problem solver. I have the ability to see a situation from different perspectives and I can get my work done even in the face of difficult obstacles. I also feel that my communication skills are top-notch.

What do you mean by communication skills

Candidate: Being able to communicate effectively as to pass information to other people, and to effectively make meaning of what they mean to convey.

Okay. How successful do you think you've been at it?

Candidate: I believe I had been successful in it, and constantly learned to improve myself over time.

Can you give me an example?

Candidate: Nothing I am able to recall immediately

That's okay. What's something you do that makes you feel proud about yourself?

Candidate: Being empathetic towards others.

Okay. What's your greatest achievement?

Candidate: An internship with National Association for Blind where I helped in an employability project.

What did you learn in that internship that you feel might be useful in this job?
